Madison Park Greetings Named a LOUIE Award Finalist

Madison Park Greetings Is Named a Finalist in the 27th Annual LOUIE Awards

[Seattle, WA] – Madison Park Greetingshas been named a finalist by the Greeting Card Association (GCA)in the prestigious 27th Annual International Greeting Card Awards Competition, better known as the "LOUIE Awards." More than 200 companies from throughout the world, including the U.S., Canada, Israel and the U.K., submitted nearly 1,100 entries in 58 categories with only three finalist emerging from each category. Madison Park Greetings was selected as a finalist in the Get Well/Feel Better, Thank You, Birthday (General), Children’s Card, Mother’s Day and Congratulations/Special Occasion categories.  


This year's LOUIE theme,"The Roaring LOUIEs," was designed by 27th LOUIE Awards Chair Tina Benavides Evans, vice president, Cards, Creative Division at American Greetings and overseen by LOUIE Strategic Chair Katy Greenspan, director of the artist community at Minted.


“We are thrilled with the caliber of entries and delighted that so many new companies submitted their entries to this year’s LOUIE Awards,” said Tina Benavides, 27th Annual LOUIE Awards chair and vice president, Cards, Creative Division at American Greetings. “We offer our thanks to the 15 outstanding judges, representing companies from across the country, who dedicated their time and expertise to carefully evaluate each card for its originality, impact, design excellence, sendability and value,” she said.


All finalists’ cards will be displayed at the LOUIE Awards Exhibit in the Crystal Palace of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, where attendees of the May 17-20 National Stationery Show®, and consumers can view the artistry and design excellence of these cards. The LOUIE Awards Exhibit will be designed by Tina Benavides from American Greetings and collaborated with Universal Presentation Concepts, Inc. (UPC), The GCA will announce LOUIE Award winners at the 27th Annual LOUIE Awards Gala, the “Roaring LOUIEs,” on the Show’s opening night at New York City’s Edison Ballroom on May 17, 2015. In their evaluation of all entries, judges used five criteria:

1.       Originality: Does the card take a unique approach to design, concept or execution?

2.       Impact: Does the card have emotional impact?

3.       Design Excellence: Is the overall look of this card visually appealing?  Did the designer make good choices in typography and artwork arrangement?

4.       Sendability: Is the card likely to be bought and sent for the occasion or purpose specified by the category? Is its format and design functional?

5.       Value: Is this card priced appropriately based on the overall quality of the product?


All LOUIE Award entries were marketed and sold in the U.S. in 2014, and a Blue Ribbon Panel of judges selected two “Cards of the Year” from among the winning cards throughout all categories, and those winners will also be announced at the Gala on May 17.

The National Stationery Show® attracts about 12,000 buyers from a variety of shops including: stationery, card and gift shops; bookstores; bridal shops; party stores; department, chain and specialty stores; large chains and "big box" mass retailers; online retailers and mail order catalogs. Approximately 800 exhibitors participate from 20 countries from Australia and Argentina to China, India, Israel and Italy
